Discover all sensors for Process Analytics

Metrohm Process Analytics offers a complete portfolio of inline sensors for real-time monitoring of critical process parameters. The ProTrode sensor series includes solutions for pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), and dissolved carbon dioxide (pCO2) measurements. These sensors support continuous process control in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and chemical production environments.

ProTrode pH sensors

The ProTrode pH portfolio includes five sensor models (200, 250, 300, 350, and 400 ), each tailored for specific process needs. Each sensor combines specific glass types, diaphragm designs, and reference systems to match different process conditions. Options include H or HT glass, glass sleeve or ceramic pin diaphragms, and open junction designs.

ProTrode DO sensor

The ProTrode DO sensor uses optical technology to measure dissolved oxygen directly in the process stream. Real-time data improves batch consistency and reduces variability in bioprocesses.

ProTrode pCO2 sensor

The ProTrode pCO2 sensor provides accurate inline CO2 monitoring by using the Severinghaus principle. Its titanium membrane cap resists corrosion and is easily replaceable. Designed for hygienic environments, it performs reliably under CIP, SIP, and autoclaving conditions.

Smart probes to increase plant safety

Safety is a top priority for all industrial plants. This makes easy and convenient maintenance essential. The ProTrode sensors from Metrohm Process Analytics meet this need with SmartConnectors. These allow the sensors to be pre-calibrated in a safe, controlled laboratory setting. The calibration data is then stored, which eliminates the need for complex calibration work in challenging outdoor conditions.

Additionally, the ProTrode sensors allow for inline monitoring of pH, oxygen, and carbon dioxide 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The inline sensors are used at the exact point-of-use (POU), directly in the process (inline), and completely independently with minimal operator intervention.

Optimise your plant performance with “real-time” analysis

«Real-time» results from inline sensors can reduce start-up waste in lean manufacturing by highlighting true process variation as part of continuous process control. If process control is dependent upon laboratory analysis, necessary process adjustments would take place hours or even days after a detected out-of-spec measurement, causing loss of raw material, final product, and even company assets (e.g., corrosion due to ion exchanger breakthrough).

The ProTrode sensors from Metrohm Process Analytics can be used together with any Metrohm Process Analyser (e.g., 2060 Process Analyser) to monitor pH as part of a multi-component system (e.g., pH, alkalinity, and hardness in power plants to prevent corrosion events).

Hassle-free inline measurements

The ProTrode sensors are designed and produced in Switzerland, by Metrohm. With decades of experience in laboratory electrodes, Metrohm has developed high-quality inline sensors that deliver accurate and reliable results. The ProTrode pH probes use glass type HT or H to support a wide range of industrial applications.

The same focus on precision and durability applies to Metrohm’s inline DO and pCO2 sensors. These bioreactor sensors are built for fermentation and cell culture processes, where continuous monitoring of oxygen and carbon dioxide is essential. They operate directly in the process, which eliminates the need for manual sampling.

Designed to withstand cleaning and sterilisation, the sensors provide stable measurements with minimal calibration. As part of Metrohm’s bioprocessing sensor portfolio, they are easy to install, low-maintenance, and equipped with smart diagnostics. They guarantee hassle-free operation in any bioprocess.

Avoid unnecessary cost by Metrohm Process Analytics’ integrated solutions

A traditional pH analysis setup requires one or multiple transmitters to transfer data from the process to the process control system (PLC or DCS), which results in a large investment for many companies and needs constant maintenance. With Metrohm Process Analytics’ ProTrode sensors, this is not an issue. The 2060 Process Analyser platform can be combined with multiple ProTrode pH sensors to create a multi-component analysis system.

Using the control software of this process analyser, it is possible to monitor pH “real-time” and take corrective actions if necessary. Besides pH measurements, the versatile 2060 Process Analyser can additionally measure multiple other parameters so your process can be performed more efficiently, saving raw material costs, yielding higher quality products.
