4 Product Families
A peristaltic pump consists of three main components: a drive, a pump head, and tubing. Inside the pump head, a rotor with rollers compresses the flexible tubing against a housing. This rolling action creates a suction and discharge effect that moves liquid smoothly and precisely through the tubing.
The process works in three phases:
- Suction: as the roller moves forward, the tubing behind it relaxes, creating a vacuum that draws liquid in.
- Occlusion: the next roller seals the tubing, trapping a fixed volume of liquid. This volume, multiplied by the pump speed, determines the flow rate.
- Discharge: the trapped liquid is pushed forward, while suction begins again at the inlet. Backflow is prevented because the tubing remains sealed at all times.
The result is a simple, reliable, and contamination-free pumping principle—ideal for accurate dosing and handling sensitive liquids.

Masterflex peristaltic pumps are highly versatile and can be used in a wide range of applications, including handling aggressive liquids, precise fluid dosing, and bottle or container filling.
The Masterflex range includes tubing pump systems for laboratory, industrial, and process applications, as well as batch and transfer operations, designed for precise dosing and filling, both continuously and in intervals.
With Masterflex high-pressure tubing, fluids can be pumped at working pressures up to 10.2 bar. For pharmaceutical and biotech applications, Pharmed high-pressure tubing is also available.
The Masterflex lineup offers pressure monitoring and control systems, as well as single-use inline pressure sensors. Combined with a Masterflex tubing pump, this system is ideal for applications such as tangential flow filtration, crossflow filtration, and bioreactor monitoring.
Masterflex pump drives and pump heads typically come with a 2-year warranty against defects in construction and materials. It is crucial to use the correct Masterflex tubing to avoid voiding the warranty on the pump head.
